Judge Long Announces Candidacy

Associate Judge Chad M. Long today officially announced his campaign for Circuit Judge in the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Illinois, which serves the citizens of Knox, Warren, Henderson, McDonough, Hancock, and Fulton counties. Judge Long is seeking to fill the vacancy of Chief Judge Raymond A. Cavanaugh, who will be retiring on December 6, 2026. Judge Long, a lifelong resident of West Central Illinois, emphasizes his deep roots, diverse legal background, and proven commitment to ensuring equal access to the justice system.

Judge Long has served on the bench as an Associate Judge since his appointment on March 1, 2024, presiding over a wide array of cases and demonstrating a judicial temperament defined by fairness and respect.

"It is a distinct honor to serve the people of the Ninth Judicial Circuit," said Judge Long. "My goal is simple: to ensure every person who walks into my courtroom receives an impartial hearing and a fair application of the law, regardless of their background or the complexity of their case. Proven Legal Career

Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Long spent 16 years as a private attorney, building a well-respected practice in the heart of the Circuit. His broad experience includes:

• Criminal Defense: Protecting constitutional rights and ensuring due process.

• Family Law: Guiding families through complex and sensitive legal matters.

• Business Law and Probate: Handling complex civil litigation, estate planning, and business disputes.

Commitment to Community

Judge Long and his wife, Monica, are natives of Galesburg, Illinois. They continued to reside in Knox County after obtaining professional degrees, underscoring Judge Long’s personal investment in the region's future.

Chad M. Long is currently an Associate Judge in the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Illinois. He previously spent 16 years as a respected private attorney. A graduate of the University of Iowa, where he received both a B.B.A. in Economics and a Juris Doctor, Judge Long currently lives in Knox County with his wife, Monica, and their two sons.
